Settings
All settings of the desktop app with what they do and their defaults – general, terminal, editor, snippets, AI Pilot, security, known hosts and updates.
The settings control how kaiport looks and behaves on this computer. Open them with ⌘,Ctrl, or with Settings in the sidebar of the start window. Most changes take effect right away; only the AI provider and the unlock password have their own Save button. Settings stay on this computer.
Open the settings
- Press ⌘,Ctrl, in any kaiport window.
- Click Settings in the sidebar of the start window.
- In the command palette of a terminal window, choose the action Settings.
- On macOS, choose kaiport → Settings… in the menu bar.

More about fonts and color schemes is in Appearance.
Editor
What opens files from the file browsers. More in Editor.
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Editor | Built-in opens files in their own editor window. External gives a local copy to another program; kaiport uploads it again whenever you save. | Built-in |
| Application | Only with External: System default application, one of the editors found on this computer, or Custom command …. | System default application |
| Command | Only with Custom command …: the command line, for example code --wait "{file}". {file} is replaced by the path of the file; without it, the path is appended. | Empty |
Import
Import … opens the import wizard. It takes over connections from your OpenSSH config (~/.ssh/config), FileZilla, Cyberduck, WinSCP, PuTTY or a kaiport export. See Import and export.
Snippets
Snippets are commands you use often. Click Snippet to add one, give it a name and enter the command; the trash icon deletes it. In a terminal window, open the command palette with ⌘PCtrlP and pick the snippet: kaiport types the command at the prompt, and you run it with Enter. See Command palette.
AI Pilot

| Lock after (minutes) | Minutes without keyboard or mouse input on the computer before kaiport locks, 0 to 240. 0 turns off locking after inactivity. | 15 |

More in App lock.
Known hosts
The SSH host keys you trusted, newest first: the host (with the port if it isn't 22, as [host]:port), the key type and the SHA256 fingerprint. Forget removes an entry; the next connection to that host asks you to confirm its key again. See Host key verification.
Updates
Shows the installed version and the update status, with Check for updates and, when a new version is available, Update now. Check for updates at start is on by default. Changelog → Show lists recent versions and their changes. See Updates. Versions from the Microsoft Store and the Mac App Store get their updates through the store; see Versions from the stores.
kaiport Pro
Shows whether kaiport Pro is active: Free version, Free trial until date, Active, renews on date, Active until date after a cancellation, or a renewal payment that did not go through. In the Mac App Store version it has the offer, Restore purchases and Manage subscription, which opens Apple's subscription management. The download from kaiport.dev and the Microsoft Store version say that they are the free version for now. See Free and kaiport Pro.
