Free and kaiport Pro
What the free version of kaiport includes, what kaiport Pro adds on iPhone, iPad and Mac, what it costs, and how you subscribe, restore, cancel and get a refund through Apple.
kaiport is free to download and works without an account. The free version covers everyday work on servers and storage. kaiport Pro, a yearly App Store subscription, adds AI Pilot and a few more features. This page explains what is included where, how you subscribe and what happens when the subscription ends.
What is free
The free version has no time limit. It includes:
- the SSH terminal with tabs, split panes, snippets and the command palette,
- SFTP, FTP/FTPS, S3, WebDAV and Azure Blob connections with the file browser and the transfer view,
- SSH keys, the built-in editor, the import from other clients and the export,
- the app lock, themes and every other setting,
- up to three saved connections.
What kaiport Pro adds
| Feature | iPhone and iPad | Mac (Mac App Store) |
|---|---|---|
| AI Pilot, the assistant in terminal and file sessions | Included | Included, with plan mode, server views and the editor's assistant |
| Jump hosts (ProxyJump) | Included | Included |
| Unlimited saved connections | Included | Included |
| Port forwarding | Not available | Included |
| MCP server for other AI tools | Not available | Included |
In the app, Pro features carry a PRO mark. Using one without kaiport Pro opens the offer, which lists what Pro includes, the price for your country and the free trial while you can still take it.
Price and free trial
kaiport Pro costs €29.99 or US$29.99 per year. The App Store sets the price for your country and currency and shows it before you buy. New subscribers get the first 14 days free. If you cancel during the free trial, you are not charged.
One subscription covers iPhone, iPad and Mac. kaiport is one app in the App Store for all three, so a subscription bought on one of them works on the others with the same Apple ID.
AI models are not included: AI Pilot uses your own API key with a provider, or a local model, and you pay the provider directly. See Models are not included.
Where you get kaiport Pro
| Where the app comes from | kaiport Pro |
|---|---|
| App Store on iPhone and iPad | In the app, through Apple |
| Mac App Store | In the app, through Apple |
| Download from kaiport.dev (macOS, Windows, Linux) | Not available yet: this is the free version for now |
| Microsoft Store | Not available yet: this is the free version for now |
On a Mac, the version from the Mac App Store is the one that offers kaiport Pro. The download from kaiport.dev says so in Settings → kaiport Pro.
Subscribe
- Open the offer: tap or click a feature marked PRO, or open Settings → kaiport Pro.
- Choose Start free trial, or Subscribe if your Apple ID has used the trial already.
- Confirm the purchase in Apple's dialog.
kaiport Pro is active right away. Apple handles the payment; kaiport never sees your payment details or your Apple ID. If the purchase waits for approval, for example with Ask to Buy, kaiport unlocks as soon as it goes through.
Restore purchases
On a new device, or after reinstalling, sign in to the App Store with the same Apple ID and open Settings → kaiport Pro. kaiport usually finds the subscription by itself; otherwise choose Restore purchases.
No account, no sync
kaiport has no account and no sign-in. The app asks the App Store on your device whether kaiport Pro is active and stores nothing about the purchase; nothing about it is sent to us. The App Store keeps the signed purchase on the device, so kaiport Pro also works offline.
Your connections stay on the device where you saved them. To bring them to another device, export them and import the file there; see Import and export.
Renewal and cancellation
kaiport Pro renews every year unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Apple manages the subscription: payment method, receipts and cancellation.
- On iPhone and iPad: open Settings › your name › Subscriptions.
- On a Mac: open the App Store, then your account › Subscriptions. In kaiport, Settings → kaiport Pro → Manage subscription takes you there.
Settings → kaiport Pro shows the state: active and when it renews, active until a date after you cancelled, the free trial, or a renewal payment that did not go through.
Refunds
Purchases in the App Store are refunded by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com with your Apple ID.
When kaiport Pro ends
When the subscription ends, kaiport goes back to the free version. Nothing is deleted:
- Connections stay, also those above the three of the free version, and you can keep using and editing them. Only adding a new connection is blocked while you have three or more; the import takes as many as fit.
- AI Pilot and, on the Mac, the MCP server stop. Your chats and settings stay.
- Jump hosts: a connection that goes through a jump host waits for kaiport Pro instead of connecting without it. The jump host stays saved.
- Port forwarding (Mac): the session starts without its forwards, and each forward says that it waits for kaiport Pro.
Everything is back as soon as kaiport Pro is active again.
Models are not included
kaiport Pro covers kaiport itself, not the AI. AI Pilot uses your own API key with Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter, Groq, Mistral, DeepSeek, Together or any other OpenAI-compatible provider, or a local model with Ollama or LM Studio. You pay your provider directly, and a local model needs no API key at all. See Set up AI Pilot.
